Mapping and memetic theories of cultural evolution provide methods and frameworks for research focused primarily upon critical GIS and geoweb technologies. Northern and indigenous place-naming systems (in Canada and the UK) offer scaffolding to examine pathways and parameters for re-thinking ICTs and their role in development, sustainability, and counter-mapping.
